Hi there, I just read your pages and wanted to get some more scoop on the scene in UAE… I have just been added to a short list of being hired out there and wanted to know how you are getting along now… Is there much sport activities and fun at night…. Beside the mall… Which I dislike also… The job would be great… But I have a great job here in San Francisco too….The money would be more, the benefits would be more… and tax free…. I like you post and would love to hear some more of your insights… M
Hello Mike,
I’m not sure how much use I would be in terms of enlightening you on AL-Ain from the perspective of a woman who is married and a mum to 2 and a cat! but I will keep telling it how I see it, and also I plan on putting up lots of links to other blogs and sites about Al-Ain which I am sure you will find useful.
Al-Ain is very different to the hype you hear about Dubai, it’s a little more relaxed, a little more tradditional. Apparently you can take part in various sports here, there are gyms dotted around, and you can always get membership at the hotels.
There are nice places to eat and a few tourist attractions…parks, pools, zoo, museums, forts, a mountain( lol) with a hotel at the top, fresh springs, etc…there are more but i am not too clued up yet.
It really depends on the scene you are looking for.
There are a lot of expats here, and there are various clubs and societies you can join.
Just keep a look out I will put some links up and please read and browse through to get a more balanced picture of this place.
If your aim is to make some savings and get a change of scenery it may be just the thing, but you will know what your aims are.
Thank you for dropping by!!!
Hi Roz,
My family (one child 16 months) is moving to the UAE (most likely Al Ain) this September/October – same time period as you last year looks like! We’re Americans. Can you offer and advice on accomodations? I’m having a hard time looking online. We’ll have about $4000 a month to live on. Hopefully that’s enough for something. We’re hoping for something furnished (with even dishes maybe) that’s 2 bedrooms. Any advice? We hope to be fairly near the university and shopping. I’ve heard hotel apartments are a good way to go – cheaper….
Thanks in advance for any ideas. My husband is traveling there at the end of May and hopes to get a look at some prospects.
Sincerely, Cheryl
